Ageless

There are certain songs that transcend time. The melodies employed by such songs resist ever becoming outdated. But the lyrics are what keep the song fresh to generation after generation. New and old listeners alike seek to interpret each line hoping to find common points, thereby merging life and song.
Tom Sawyer, by the incomparable Rush, is one such example. Feast on the lyrical wizardry and interpret freely.
Maybe, just maybe, you might relate to the subject of this ageless song.
A modern day warrior
Mean, mean stride
Today's Tom Sawyer
Mean, mean pride
Though his mind is not for rent
Don't put him down as arrogant
His reserve, a quiet defense
Riding out the day's events
The river
What you say about his company
Is what you say about society
Catch the mist, catch the myth
Catch the mystery, catch the drift
The world is, the world is
Love and life are deep
Maybe as his skies are wide
Today's Tom Sawyer
He gets high on you
And the space he invades
He gets by on you
No his mind is not for rent
To any god or government
Always hopeful, yet discontent
He knows changes aren't permanent
But change is
Note: these are not all the lyrics, but there is enough here to provoke some healthy introspection

Not sure if I would call it ageless with that opening synth solo. But it is a very good song not the less.
I have never read the lyrics so I had a few wrong. Here is what I thought they said:
A modern day warrior
Mean, mean stride
Today's Tom Sawyer
Mean, mean pride
Though his mind is not for rent
Don't put him down as arrogant
His reserve, a quiet defense
Riding out the day's events
The river
What you say about his company
Is what you say about the Sawyer T
Catch the mist, catch the myth
Catch the mystery, catch the drift
The world is, the world is
run by the likes of the these
Maybe as his eyes are white
Today's Tom Sawyer
He gets high on you
And the space he invades
He gets by on you
No his mind is not for rent
To any god or government
And he is sowing discontent
He knows changes aren't permanent
But change is
Carl,
Do you have a bias against synth solos?
They are soooo 1970s.
uh ... Tom Sawyer was released in 1981.
I had no idea that I had so many of the lyrics wrong,
oh well it never kept me from singing along!
May have been released in 1981 but..
It sounds sooo 1970s.
There stirs something deep within you, my friend and your pen is the tap. Good for you.
